Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Education Requirement for Title 10 Faculty Member:
A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university that included or was supplemented (at least 24 semester hours) by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position such as, international relations, political science, comparative politics, political theory, strategic studies, economics, etc.

A combination of education and equivalent experience related to the position which includes courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four-year course of study described in A above.

This position requires the incumbent to possess a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a field appropriate to the position such as, international relations, political science, comparative politics, political theory, strategic studies, economics, etc.

This position requires the incumbent to possess a Ph.D.,
OR an equivalent doctorate degree,
OR ABD from a regionally accredited college or university in a field appropriate to the position such as, international relations, political science, comparative politics, political theory, strategic studies, economics, etc. If you are ABD, you will be required to obtain your Doctorate degree within two (2) years from your entry-on-duty date.

Specialized Experience: At least one (1) year of specialized experience developing undergraduate or graduate level curriculum, teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level, and performing academic research at the graduate or undergraduate level either in international relations, political science, comparative politics, political theory, strategic studies, economics or related field.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
- Deliver graduate level instruction/facilitation
- Curriculum development or assessment methodologies
- Communicate effectively in oral and written formats
- Facilitate student academic research and writing
- Teaching small group facilitation
- Level of accredited education
NOTE: There is no formal rating system for applying veterans' preference to Title 10 appointments in the excepted service; however, the Department of Defense considers veterans' preference eligibility a positive factor for Title 10 hiring. Applicants eligible for veterans' preference must include that information in their cover letter or resume and attach supporting documentation (e.g., DD Form 214, "Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty", Member 4 copy) to their application.
Although the point-preference system is not used, applicants eligible to claim a 10-point preference must submit a Standard Form (SF) 15, "Application for 10-Point Veteran Preference," and supporting documentation required for the specific type of preference claimed. SF 15, which lists the types of 10-point preference and the required supporting documents, is available from the Office of Personnel Management Website at
www.opm.gov.
If you are currently serving on active duty: You MUST submit a certification from the armed forces that certifies the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions not later than 120 days after the date the certification is submitted for consideration in the hiring process AND has a compensable service-connected disability. The certification MUST show the characterization of your discharge (Honorable, General, etc.) and OVERALL compensable service-connected disability percentage. Prior to appointment, the service member's character of service and qualifying discharge or release must be verified through a DD form 214 or equivalent documentation.
