This position is located in the Office of External Affairs, under the supervision of the Associate Director for External Affairs, National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), Smithsonian Institution. Duties and responsibilities include the following:

Experience at GS-14: You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position specialized experience is defined as developing strategic plans, goals, policies and procedures related to a visitation program for a museum, educational or cultural institution; developing, planning and implementing a visitor service program in a multicultural education or cultural institution; maintaining collaborative relationships with African American representatives, agencies, cultural institutions, or museums; communicating orally and in writing to convey concepts, articulate projects and negotiate with others related to the museum or cultural institution; organizing, administering and managing operations (including safety, crowd control, line management and emergency preparedness); and managing or implementing information desk and/or welcome center operations; training and coordinating floor staff and volunteers.
Experience at GS-15: You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position specialized experience is defined as developing strategic plans, goals, policies and procedures for visitation program for a museum, educational/cultural institution; developing/implementing visitor service program in a multicultural education/cultural institution; establishing/maintaining relationships with African American constituents, cultural institutions/museums, etc.; communicating orally and in writing to convey concepts, articulate projects and negotiate with other museums/cultural institutions; organizing/managing operations (safety, crowd control, emergency preparedness); managing info desk/welcome center operations; and developing/implementing protocol for VIPs (e.g., international visitors, gov’t officials), VVIPs (e.g., President, Vice President or Head of States).
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
