As an Budget Officer, your work assignments may include but not limited:
Supervise and manage all budget staff in the Budget Office. Lead the annual budget process cycle. Responsible for budget planning, formulation, justification, and execution for the Institutes's appropriated funds, gift funds and other financial resources. Collaborate with the Executive Officer on aspects of budget and finance for both short and long-term planning efforts related to the budget process. Formulate and monitor the Institute's financial management program and establish systems, financial guidance and processes for effective and efficient management and internal control of funds. Maintain accountability for financial resources utilized for Institute operations through the administration and management of collaborative extramural research grants and contracts. Consistently compile, prepare and reconcile the Institute's budget. Plan and oversee the development and implementation of financial tools and accounting systems that are beneficial to the Institute in obtaining data for management decisions while remaining compatible with the central NIH budget and accounting systems. Develop materials for hearings and brief witnesses in defense of the budget as necessary. Serve as a monitoring point for clearance of budgetary and fiscal data as the result of congressional and public inquiries. Maintain control of the allotment of funds. Serve on trans-NIH work groups such as the NIH Budget Officers committee.
