The primary purpose of this position is to provide leadership and technical guidance in coordination and integration of the Biology program in conservation planning and application, technology development and transfer, training, and quality assurance to all offices within the assigned zone.
• Work is performed in the office and in the field. Field work requires travel over difficult terrain during all seasons of the year and in all types of weather. Long periods of standing, walking, bending, and other activities associated wtih outdoors work are common, and work can include frequent lifting of equipment weighing 45 pounds. Incumbent may be exposed to poisonous insects, plants, and snakes. Safety precautions and protective clothing are required.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
• Entrance on duty is contingent upon completion of a pre-employment security investigation. The position may be subject to a Public Trust background investigation at the time of appointment, and may be subject to reinvestigation every five years thereafter. A favorable adjudication of the clearance or background investigation at the time of appointment and on reinvestigations is a condition of employment.

All applicants must meet all qualification (i.e. Basic Education Requirement, and Specialized Experience Requirement) and eligibility (e.g. time-in-grade, general restriction on movement after competitive appointment/time-after-competitive appointment) by the closing date of this vacancy announcement. Basic Education Requirement: Degree: biological science that included at least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; and
OR Combination of Education and Experience: equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Specialized Experience Requirement: To qualify for this position, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the Federal GS- 11 level or higher, that has equipped you with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. For this position, specialized experience is defined as providing technical leadership and guidance in the development, and coordination of upland and wetland wildlife conservation programs and integration into natural resource conservation plans.
Time-in-Grade: Applicants must have completed at least 52 weeks at the next lower grade (i.e. GS-11 for GS-12), or have held the same grade or higher grade level as the one advertised in order to be considered for this position.
