The Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center is recruiting for a HIGHLY QUALIFIED, HIRING MOTIVATED REGISTERED NURSES for our MEDICAL/SURGICAL Units.
This announcement will be used on an ongoing basis to fill multiple positions until April 30, 2019. The first referral of applicants will occur on November 14, 2018, then every three weeks until all positions are filled or until the closing of the announcement - whichever occurs first.

The Med/Surg Nurse is a highly skilled individual who functions within the Acute Care areas of Nursing and Patient Care, and various patient care areas to provide clinical nurse expertise, care, and education to diverse patient populations. The staff nurse will collaborate with other health team members to assure quality care is provided to various Veteran patients. The Staff nurse is required to work and support multiple inpatient areas within the medical center as staffing and patient acuity needs acutely arise.
The Med/Surg Registered Nurse is an expert in providing, directing, or influencing the care of older persons, their families, and significant others in a variety of settings. The Med/Surg Registered Nurse demonstrates an in-depth understanding of dynamics of aging as well as the interventions necessary for health promotion, palliative care, and for management of health status changes. The Med/Surg Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing services independently or collaboratively with clinical and administrative staff and interdisciplinary teams. Through administration, education, research and theory-based clinical practice, the Med/Surg registered nurse advances the health care of older persons. The incumbent must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to adult and geriatric patients in the Med/Surg environment. The individual must possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status, and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs, providing care as needed as described in policies and procedures. The Incumbent is able to evaluate performance of other nursing personnel; is capable of relieving the Patient Care manager during his/her absence; and may function as Charge Nurse.
Work Schedule: Various shifts available and are based on the unit assigned. Overtime, including evenings, weekends and Federal Holidays, may be required.
