The Mental Health Service Line Chief is directly responsible to manage, direct, and supervise programs and staff in the mental health service line of the medical center.
This is a management position with responsibilities for all aspects of patient care delivery in the areas of mental health. The successful candidate should possess excellent leadership skills and should be knowledgeable and proficient with VA Performance measures and the principles of System Redesign including implementation and promotion of outpatient clinic access.
The Mental Health Service Line Chief is directly accountable to facility leadership and serves as principal advisor for administration and management of the inter-disciplinary service line at this medical center. A key role of the service line chief is linking clinical improvements to operational efficiency for the service line that includes responsibility of emergency room care, inpatient care, and employee health services. The intensity, activity, and broad program mission of the Mental Health Service Line generates numerous and complex problems which require the service line chief to have outstanding skills and ability in planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the programs in order to effectively contribute to the positive impact on the interdisciplinary service, the interdisciplinary profession and the health care delivery system. Each of these key responsibilities is essential to providing services for our Veterans. From patient care to working closely with the patients' families, you can play an active role in helping vets receive the care they deserve.
The service line chief formulates long and short-range goals and objectives, plans and programs for the service, integrating them with the overall medical center and VISN objectives and plans. The Mental Health Service Line Chief also serves as a member of the VISN 5 MHSL sub-council which coordinates planning and programming, and helps promote best practices in mental health across the VISN. Participates with leadership and other managerial and medical staff and other clinical leaders in the decision-making structure and processes of the medical center to assure that quality patient care is maintained. The service line chief actively participates in the overall management consideration involving administration, budgeting, manpower, and other resource utilization, including identification of long and short range needs, formulation of proposals for top management consideration and plans and initiates improvement actions on a continuing progressive basis. This involves preparing budget estimates, justifying quarterly allotment requests as required, preparing projections, and justification for budgetary, personnel, equipment, and space requirements of the service. Participates in multi-disciplinary meetings on a regular basis.
