· Plans and conducts own work procedures to be applied in support of projects assigned to higher grade physicists. Incumbent is
required to make independent decisions concerning standard practices and procedures in performance of multiple tasking.
· Performs scientific assignments consisting of a series of interrelated tasks or problems screened by a higher grade physicist.
· Assist higher grade physicists in finding solutions for problems requiring a variety of data-sources and scientific disciplines. Participates
in the research, collection, investigation, and application of scientific data and their relationship to the assigned area of study.

QualificationsBasic Qualification Required:
1310-Physics Series: Must have a degree in physics; or related degree that includes at least 24 semester hours in physics; or, have a combination of education and experience demonstrated by coursework that is equivalent to a major in physics (at least 24 semester hours), plus appropriate experience or additional education.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION FOR THE GS-9:
1. Two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree
2. Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service or equivalent in other pay systems that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is in or related to the position to be filled. Examples of this experience involves using basic principles and theories of the discipline to apply standard formulas, research and provide factual data for senior physicists, and solving problems for detailed and simple scientific tasks; and knowledge of mathematical and statistical techniques to develop, simulate and analyze data.
