Learn more about
The purpose of the Federal Judicial Center is to further the development and adoption of improved judicial administration in the courts of the United States, primarily through rigorous and objective research and education. Congress established the Center in 1967 as a separate organization within the federal judicial system at the request of the Judicial Conference of the United States. A nine-member board, chaired by the Chief Justice of the United States, determines the Center's basic policies.
The International Judicial Relations Office (IJRO) is responsible for carrying out the Center's mission to work with the judiciaries of other countries. The IJRO coordinates informational briefings and court visits for visiting foreign delegations, hosts (in the United States) and develops (abroad) programs related to judicial education and administration, creates materials about the U.S. judicial system, and assists other organizations with identifying U.S. judges and court personnel for international rule of law projects. The IJRO also works to inform U.S. judges about developments in international law and foreign court systems.
