The Chief of Psychiatry has supervision over all psychiatrists within Mental Health Service at the VA North Texas Health Care System. This consists of 68 psychiatrists serving in over 15 different clinics and programs. This supervision includes but is not limited to oversight over all psychiatry recruitment, hiring, credentialing, privileging, professional practice, and peer review.
The Chief of Psychiatry also has substantial role in the management and leadership of the Mental Health Service as a member of the Executive Leadership Group (ELG). The ELG is composed of 8 executive members who collectively determine the overall operational and functional goals and policies for the Service. The ELG is led by the Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS) for Mental Health and members include: the Deputy ACOS, the Administrative Officer, the Director of the Comprehensive Homeless Center Programs, and the discipline chiefs for Psychology, Psychiatry, Social Work, and Nursing in Mental Health. As a member of the ELG, the Chief of Psychiatry has administrative supervisory oversight for the staff and operations of all outpatient mental health teams on the Dallas VA campus, including the Gold Team (Substance Use Disorders focus), Diamond Team (General mental health focus), Trauma Team (PSTD, MST focus), Silver Team (Geriatrics focus) and Primary Care / Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) Team. Incumbent also has oversight of the Consultation/Liaison (C/L) Team and the psychiatry providers on the Acute Inpatient Mental Health Unit. This oversight includes the direct supervision of supervisory staff including the Assistant Chief of Psychiatry as well as 6 Clinical Directors (three Psychologists and three Senior Social Workers), 3 Nurse Managers and 7 Psychiatrist Medical Directors. The Chief of Psychiatry collaborates with all ELG members and works very closely with the Chief of Psychology who has administrative oversight for all outpatient mental health teams located off the Dallas Campus - the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) locations.
Work Schedule: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, with no on-call responsibilities.
