Incumbent is a licensed optometrist and full-time independent practitioner and Assistant Chief of Eye Care Service at the VA Central Ohio Health Care System (HCS). Incumbent reports directly to the Chief of Eye Care Service and is responsible for facilitating the work of the eye clinic section to achieve the mission, vision and values of the HCS. The Assistant Chief of Eye Care Service serves as the first line supervisor of technical staff, nursing staff, and optometrists. The incumbent is involved in planning, organizing and implementing Eye Care Service and facility-wide programs including fiscal and resource initiatives, human resource management, VHA and VISN performance measures and strategic planning. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Performs direct patient care as an optometrist
- Collaborates with the Chief of Eye Care Service in all eye clinic process flow and improvement recommendations
- Manages staff leave requests within the Service
- Collaborates with Nursing & Clerical managers on site; attending, huddles, operational meetings & service meetings
- Participates in the recruitment, interviewing & selection processes of new providers within Eye Care Service
- Evaluates of competencies of newly hired/assigned personnel and orientation of staff to policies/procedures of the clinic & health system
- Completes additional duties assigned and delegated by the Chief of Eye Care Service
Work Schedule: M-F (8:00 am - 4:30 pm) May require some weekends.
