    Summary

    This position is located in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Ocean Service (NOS), Office of Coast Survey (OCS), with one position in Norfolk, Virginia, and one position in Seattle, WA.

    Responsibilities

    As a Physical Scientist, you will perform the following duties:
    • Acquire, process, and analyze hydrographic data, including all the ancillary data used to transform raw bathymetric soundings to chart datum.
    • Provide input and implement new policy to ensure continuous process improvement.
    • Participate in the testing and evaluation of new hydrographic systems and new software and systems.
    • Compile maps, charts, smooth sheets and other cartographic products from hydrographic and bathymetric data.
    • Deploy up to 180 days a year to survey vessels to maintain proficiency.

    These duties are described at the full performance level of the ZP-3; the ZP-2 is developmental leading to such performance.
