    These positions are located in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Arthropod-borne Animal Diseases Research Unit (ABADRU), located in Manhattan, KS.

    These positions will report to research scientists and support various aspects of infectious disease research on ruminant viruses transmitted by insect vectors.

    Major Duties may include, but are not limited to:

    • Collecting and evaluating samples from the following: arthropods; livestock; mice or rats; and other lab animals.
    • Performing quantitative PCR and nucleic acid isolation.
    • Keeping exact and detailed records of data obtained from experiments.
    • Maintaining laboratory equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures.
    • Using the following equipment to obtain, analyze and summarize data/samples: quantitative PCR machines; next generation sequencers; class II biosafety cabinets; MS Excel; plate readers; fluorescence microscopes; CO2 incubators; and autoclaves.
