The right candidate is a board certified in Internal Medicine and will have a rich background in the clinical, academic, and administrative realms of primary care, and will qualify for an academic appointment at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. The White River Junction VA Medical Center is a 74 bed, acute care facility that provides a full range of primary, secondary, and specialty care. We are dually affiliated with the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and the University of Vermont (UVM) College of Medicine. The Chief of Primary Care oversees all programs of patient care and the educational activities for Primary Care Service at the facility and its seven outlying clinics.
You will serve in both a clinical and administrative role that accomplishes the health care delivery mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs at the organizational level. As Chief, you will be responsible for the overall operation of the Primary Care Service and as such, you will:Lead a large multidisciplinary service of health professionals, including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, and other clinical and administrative staff.
Oversee all aspects of the service including budget and fiscal management, human resource management, strategic planning, and program development, assuring that the clinical and administrative functions are integrated in order to provide optimum utilization of the available resources.
Ensure the quality and timeliness of services provided, customer satisfaction, as well as compliance with standards of accrediting bodies.
Ensure appropriate use of available resources and be responsible for inspiring, motivating, and guiding staff in achieving the strategic goals and plans of the service.
Collaborate with other service chiefs and program managers.
Support the academic mission and oversee training and research opportunities. You should have a full and unrestricted license (any state), be board certified and have experience sufficient to maintain an academic appointment. Having outstanding professional ability in the practice of medicine or a medical specialty and the ability to guide the development and implementation of programs such as medical practice, professional standards, personnel issues, quality, and performance improvement will be key to your success, along with a history of working and leading in an academic setting.
