The NASA Pathways Intern Program provides students with the opportunity to explore NASA careers and gain meaningful developmental work experience. This position is part of the NASA Pathways Intern Employment Program (IEP) which is a formal training program.
Participants completes assigned duties, tasks, readings, and developmental activities specified in the Program.
Participants receive formal periodic assessments of progress. You may be required to perform rotational assignments in various organizations.
The participant as an Network and Information Security Specialist will perform basic developmental work in Computer Networks and Information Assurance training and assisting in new and/or existing Information Technology projects.
Basic Education Requirement: Applicant must be accepted for enrollment or are currently enrolled pursing a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provides a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
The following major(s) are preferred: Computer Science & Cybersecurity.

Interns may work full-time (traditional) or part-time (non-traditional) schedules. (Flexible hours and days depending on the student academic schedule.) The Supervisor and Intern will agree on a formally-arranged schedule of school and work rotations. A rotation is a defined period of work or school study. The intern may work full-time during summer and school breaks.
Interns may be promoted to higher grades based on the amount of education completed and acceptable performance. However, promotions are not guaranteed.
You will serve a trial period for the duration of the Intern appointment.
These positions are in the excepted service and are being filled under the Pathway's Internship Program. Appointments may be non-competitively converted from the Pathways Program to a term or permanent position in the competitive service provided that all educational requirements for that position are met and there is an available position.
However, conversion is not mandatory or guaranteed. If converted, upon completion of the program, there may be promotion potential up to a GS-12.
Interns may be considered for conversion to a term or permanent appointment within 120 days of completion of degree requirements provided they:
Meet the qualification requirements for the position to which they are converted; and maintain acceptable performance.
