     The incumbent provides expert advice and recommendations to the Under Secretary on complex international financial, economic, legal, and development policy issues. At the direction of the Under Secretary, the incumbent coordinates and leads policy initiatives and joint studies with other divisions and bureaus of the Treasury Department, and other government agencies.

    The incumbent serves as a key senior advisor, providing expert executive level advice, guidance, and support to the Under Secretary on key mission-critical issues, initiatives, and agency functions. Incumbent assures that the Under Secretary is provided with pertinent information for decision-making on highly sensitive and potentially controversial issues. Recommendations arising from the studies and analyses are instrumental in the direction and development of major policy, program, and legislative initiatives.

    Provides advice and recommendations on policy implications of proposed legislation affecting a broad range of complex policy and programs concerning international finance and economic issues.

    Incumbent conducts numerous complex and high-priority special assignments at the direction of the Under Secretary involving extensive research, fact finding and program improvements on a variety of high-level economic and finance subjects that are of critical importance to the department.

    Plans and conducts analyses of vital financial and economic policies that are of Department-wide scope and interest; to generate and apply new hypotheses and concepts in the evaluation of complex matters; and to organize and present options and recommendations for use by the Under Secretary.

    Coordinates and consults with top officials of the Department, White House, and other Executive Agencies; members of Congress and representatives of Congressional committees; and other external departmental officials in order to resolve controversial, high level issues and carry out the work for the Office of the Under Secretary.

    Works with the Under Secretary in formulating and implementing financial and economic policy initiatives. Assists, manages and in some cases directs the formulation and undertaking of analysis of complex financial and economic initiatives. Reports on progress of initiatives to the Under Secretary and makes recommendations, as necessary, for the resolution of significant issues.

    Analyzes, reviews and evaluates various congressional acts, foreign policies and compliance regulations to ensure their objectives, approaches and practices conform to current Treasury's financial and economic requirements, policies and programs.
