The primary purpose of this position is for fulfilling all transportation needs in support of the delivery of direct patient care operation of the Medical Center. Duties include but are not limited to:

Incumbent must have a valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 30 days of hire, in accordance with the Federal "Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act" of 10/26/86, Group "B" Endorsement "P".
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent must be alert at all times to prevent accidents when driving. Many patient transportation trips are made in congested traffic and under hazardous road conditions. Position requires heavy lifting (50-80pounds), pushing and pulling as necessary to load/unload patient supplies and materials.
Working Conditions:
(1) Work is performed inside buildings and outdoors.
(2) Outdoor work exposes the incumbent to long periods of extreme temperatures, humidity, and moisture during all types of seasonal weather phenomenon.
(3) Incumbent is additionally exposed to excessive quantities of dust, dirt, grease, gas, oil and fumes produced by motor vehicles and surrounding environment.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
