The Forester position is located in the State office, area, or field office in the assigned state, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), US Department of Agriculture (USDA).
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. This will require the operation of a motor vehicle on both public and private roads during daylight hours and occasionally after dark.
• Must obtain Conservation Planning certification in accordance with the guidelines in General Manual 180 Part 409.3. State specific supplement requirements, if issued will apply.
• Physical Demands: A considerable amount of physical activity is required while making on-the-ground examinations or inspections of on-going operations, including walking and climbing over rough terrain.
• Work Environment: The work involves regular and recurrent exposure to the operation of agricultural or forestry equipment, sometimes under adverse conditions, such as snow and icy field conditions, and unimproved roads, and exposure to poisonous plants and irritating insects. Protective equipment is necessary on construction and actively managed forest sites.
• Entrance on duty is contingent upon completion of a pre-employment security investigation. The position may be subject to a Public Trust background investigation at the time of appointment, and may be subject to reinvestigation every five years thereafter. A favorable adjudication of the clearance or background investigation at the time of appointment and on re-investigations is a condition of employment.
