    The Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977, 30 U.S.C., § 801 et seq., authorizes the Secretary of Labor to establish standards designed to promote miners' safety and health, to inspect work sites for compliance with standards, to cite violations, to fix time periods for abatement, and to propose assessment of penalties.

    The following are the duties of this position at the GS-08. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

    -Track and record status of on-going cases for assigned Administrative Law Judge(s) by instigating the computerized case docketing system.
    -Receive telephone and personal callers to the office of Judge(s).
    -In accordance with established precedent and consistent with practices of assigned Judge(s), prepare for review drafts of decisions after hearing, settlement decisions, dismissals, and other decisional matters.
    -Prepare and maintain calendar of assigned Judge's hearing dates and sites.
