    The Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center (GRECC) Director is responsible for the overall operations and performance of the GRECC.

    The Birmingham/Atlanta GRECC is composed of three separate but integrated components: research, education, and clinical care. The mission of the GRECC is to improve the capability of the VA health care delivery system to provide services that are effective and appropriate in meeting the medical, psychological, and social needs of older veterans. This is accomplished through research, education of health care personnel, veterans, and their families about the principles of high quality geriatric care; and the development and evaluation of models of clinical services for eligible older veterans. Although no one program component eclipses any of the others, the research mission of the GRECC must be the backbone of the GRECC's programming, focus, and identity.

    The GRECC Director: a) Articulates and promotes the vision, mission, and goals of the program; b) Advocates for resources (including space, personnel, supplies, equipment, and travel support) on behalf of the GRECC; c) Serves as ex officio member of the GRECC Advisory Committee; d) Represents, or delegates the authority to represent, the GRECC on suitable committees, boards, and councils of the VA and VISN, and to the Office of Geriatrics and Extended Care; e) Ensures that all GRECC ADs and the AO work collaboratively in the annual development and evaluation of the GRECC's goals and objectives; f) Initiates all necessary personnel actions concerning GRECC Core Staff, including hiring, promotion, evaluation, recognition, counseling, reprimand, discipline and termination; g) Establishes with the host facility Director or the VISN Director, or designee, the GRECC performance plan and reviews the plan with that individual at least annually. The GRECC director contributes effort to all parts of the program mission. Thus, the GRECC director (1) conducts aging-related research relevant to a GRECC focus area; (2) educates health care personnel, veterans and their family members; and (3) participates in the development of innovative models of VA clinical care as well as in direct clinical care.

    Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m or 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
