- Provide leadership and scientific management over CBIIT's biomedical informatics programs supporting clinical and translational research.
- Manage the work of subordinate staff engaged in developing and implementing clinical and translational biomedical informatics solutions.
- Represent CBIIT and NCI as a national expert on developments in clinical and translational informatics and associated science policy implications.
- Evaluate the performance of existing and new clinical and translational informatics activities and initiatives.
- Serve as a Project Officer in the acquisition and management of contracts involving clinical and translational biomedical informatics.
- Organize and/or represent NCI and NIH at scientific meetings, symposia, and conferences to ensure that program objectives and developments are related to the needs of the field.

QualificationsIn order to qualify for a Program Director (Bioinformatics), GS-0601 position you must meet the following Education Requirements:
Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
In addition to meeting the Minimum Educational Requirements, you must meet the following Qualification Requirements:
Have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: formulating objectives, plans, or policies for initiatives and activities in support of clinical or translational biomedical informatics programs or projects; providing leadership and guidance to subordinate professional and support staff; developing implementation plans for clinical or translational biomedical informatics; preparing reports on clinical or translational informatics research activities; and translating scientific, regulatory, and administrative requirements into software requirements.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
