    This position is located on the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest, Region One. The duty location may be Helena or Great Falls, Montana and will be determined at the time of selection.

    This position serves as a Hydrologist with responsibility for Forest level program management of the Watershed (i.e., Soils and Water) Program.

    • Provides hydrologic functional and technical support and advice to be used in development of long and short range programs for Watershed Management and provides a variety of hydrologic recommendations for inclusion in the Forest Plan. 
    • Provides specialized hydrologic advice to subunit managers to enable them to meet Watershed constraints while carrying out planned resource activities
    • Serves as an authority preparing reports on a variety of complex studies; involving analysis of data collected and the environment from which it was collected, and plans for corrective actions. 
    • Reviews/analyzes site clearance requests and advises on site soil/groundwater problems which may impede construction or require revision of design.  
    • Prepares replies to congressional and other queries pertaining to assigned projects.
    • Makes presentations and responds to technical questions at public Technical Review Committee Meetings.
    • Performs supervisory duties 20% or less of the time.

    Travel Required

    Occasional travel - Travel is required 1 to 2 times per month for meetings and/or training.
