The primary purpose of this position is to to provide planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over nonsupervisory employees assigned to USAFWC/JA. - Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of USAFWC/JA.
- Ensures that the Military Justice Division, Acquisition Law Division, Labor Law Division, Environmental Law and the Civil Law Divisions comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
- Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management.
- Represents USAFWC/JA with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
- Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the Civil Law Division, ensuring that the division complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
- Communicates with higher headquarters and the General Counsel.
- In the absence of the Staff Judge Advocate, or as delegated by the Staff Judge Advocate, communicates with or responds to inquiries emanating from higher headquarters (e.g.,) ACC/JA, AF/JA) and the General Counsel Office.
- Reviews courts-martial cases and writes Staff Judge Advocate (SJA) pre-trial advice and post-trial SJA recommendations on courts-marital cases before action by the General or Special Courts-Martial Convening Authorities.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: There is no Office of Personnel Management qualification standard for this series. The following qualifications are IAW AF Instruction 51-107, dtd 24 Oct 2011 and Department of Defense Directive 1442.2, certified current as of 12 Mar 2004.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: You MUST have successfully completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and have the first professional law degree (LLB or JD). In addition, at the time of application, you must provide proof, dated within four months of application, of "active" status with a bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia. On-line information is allowed as long as it shows that you are in "active" status.
Must possess a law degree from an ABA-accredited law school, and admission to and membership in good standing of the bar of any State, District of Columbia or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, in good standing. Required to disclose any currently pending allegations or previous findings of ethics, judicial, or other professional misconduct by any state bar or attorney disciplinary committee. Must have professional legal experience in excess of two years as is commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position to be assumed. (You MUST submit copies of official school transcripts and copy of certifications/memberships.)
Appointments will be made on the basis of merit and in accordance with veteran's preference entitlements and applicable rules and regulations of the office of Personnel Management. 3. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization.
4. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
5. Able to effectively interpret and apply law and recommend change in legislation, policy, or regulations.
6. Able to implement top down direction for maximum legal effectiveness.
7. Professional knowledge, training, and experience in the specialized fields of labor, environmental, administrative, criminal, and contract law.
8. Possession of a law degree from and accredited law school and membership in good standing in a US bar.
