This position is located in the Visitor Services Division (VS), Associate Director for External Affairs of the National Air and Space Museum (NASM), Smithsonian Institution (SI). Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position specialized experience is defined as experience scheduling tours and/or programs, coordinating volunteers and providing customer service in a museum.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.
The following education can be substituted for specialized experience at the IS-07 grade level.
One full year of graduate level education related to the position or Superior Academic Achievement may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement.

Knowledge of volunteer scheduling and tour/program scheduling.
Ability to lead a group of volunteers.
Knowledge of procedures for the recruitment of volunteers in a museum or cultural/historical site.
Ability to communicate in writing to respond to visitor inquiries, tour requests and complaints.
Ability to provide customer service.
Ability to communicate orally to make presentations for visitor service volunteer training.
