- Perform the uncomplex repair, overhaul, and modification of electronic/electrical devices/equipment such as circuit test sets, breakout boxes, power monitor test sets, power distribution boxes, and cable and harness assemblies.
- Facilitate test procedures to locate and diagnose defective parts.
- Apply electronic principles and their applications in order to complete electrical/electronic assignments.
- Recommend new methods of repair for electronic/electrical equipment.
- Determine nature of repair to modify and repair mechanical/electrical assemblies.

To be eligible for conversion, employee must complete at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service. Employee must have a current performance rating at least fully successful or equivalent.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electronics Worker~ without more than normal supervision. Qualifying work is defined as common Electronics Worker performing the noncomplex repair, overhaul, modification and fabrication of electronic/electrical devices and equipment. Qualifying work is performed under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Work assignments require light to moderate physical effort. Employees frequently lift, carry or handle items weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally they handle items greater than 40 pounds. Incumbent must work in a sitting position for extended periods. Frequent standing, walking, bending, and stooping is required.
Working Conditions: Work is performed inside of shops that are adequately heated, lighted, and ventilated or in shop van at site where the weather elements are a factor. Is subject to injuries such as cuts, bruises and burns caused by electrical shock, RF energy and soldering irons. Ensures that hazardous materials/waste within work area are handled/ processed within operating guidelines. Guidance for the proper handling of hazardous materials/ waste is obtained through formal training efforts and specific guidance issued by the supervisor. Ensures that storage drums, and other containers housing hazardous materials/waste, are properly labeled and secured at all times. Reports any deficiencies to the supervisor. Properly disposes of hazardous materials/waste used/generated at work site. Immediately notifies supervisor of any accident or spill and initiates response actions as directed by supervisor. Since exposure to hazardous materials/waste is possible, wears protective clothing and equipment (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.) as situations warrant.
