This position is in the Dept of Wildlife Health Sciences (WHS) at the Smithsonian National Zoological Park (NZP) in Washington, DC. Physical Requirements:This position requires considerable walking, standing, heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.), stooping, and other types of physical effort and dexterity in moving and distributing animals, animal feed, cage materials, equipment, and in opening and closing cage doors and gates. Although safety measures are taken, there is always a hazard of injury in working with exotic and unpredictable animals, which may be harboring zoonotic infections.
Qualification requirements must be met within 30 days of the job announcement closing date.
Experience: You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-8 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position Specialized experience is defined as providing veterinary technical support in the delivery of health care to a wide variety of non-domestic collection animals; completing veterinary tasks; and providing clinical laboratory support as a diagnostic tool for health care to insure the proper functioning of in place medical programs.
NOTE: Possession of a licensed, registered, or certified veterinary technician (LVT, RVT or CVT) certificate is required.
Or Education: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent degree related to the position may be substituted to meet the experience requirements
