The Section Chief will have a clinical and supervisory faculty appointment at the Kansas City VA Medical Center. Responsibilities include overseeing the clinical care delivered in primary care, promoting scholarship, supporting training, developing faculty and trainees, developing local clinical pathways and outcome measures to improve the quality of care, and enhancing the Kansas City VA Medical Center's mission.
The Section Chief assists the Chief of Primary Care in the overall clinical and administrative management of an interdisciplinary team delivering customer service and patient-focused quality care. Works collaboratively with staff members within and outside the department to plan, implement, evaluate and improve care delivery methods, as well as to meet operational goals of the Medical Center.
The Section Chief is responsible for the clinical performance of the Primary Care section at the Linwood Clinics, setting standards of excellence for all professional staff within primary care; developing policies and procedures that are necessary to support the provisions of care provided by Primary Care Service and the quality goals of the Medical Center.
The physician will be responsible for the determination of treatment modalities, patient assessment, care planning and coordination. His/her responsibilities will also include: various administrative functions, committee responsibilities, membership duties, and implementation of performance improvements. The incumbent demonstrates the skill and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, including the ability to identify patient needs, and to provide the care needed to promote improvement.
Teaching responsibilities includes the monitoring and coordination of educational activities including planning, evaluating and documenting.
Quality Assurance and Research responsibilities include identifying and defining significant research and development problems, to plan and execute a precise research program and to generate effective reports and results worthy of publication.
Administrative responsibilities include supervising others, program planning, leading and attending staff meetings and serving as a member of various committees, as appointed.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Occasional Saturday Clinics per national directives.
