    Responsibilities

    Joining Customs and Border Protection, Office of Human Resources Management will allow you to use your expertise in industrial/organizational psychology. This position starts at a salary of $81,548.00 (GS-12, Step 1) to $126,062.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $148,967 (GS-14, Step 10).     In this Personnel Research Psychologist position, you will become a key member of an interdisciplinary team of Homeland Security professionals responsible for enhancing organization effectiveness through organizational development, designing, developing, and validating tests and other assessment instruments for use within CBP, and conducting research to support national initiatives. Typical work assignments of this position include:

    • Serving as an internal consultant to CBP program offices on human capital issues such as talent management, career paths and workforce development, organizational development, motivation, leadership, and evaluation, using behavioral science as the foundation for organizational assessments and interventions
    • Designing and implementing surveys to support data driven decision-making around human capital issues or enable program evaluation
    • Planning and conducting job analysis studies, the results of which serve as the foundation for a variety of human resources programs such as developing tests and other assessments used for frontline hiring, developing training curriculum for new hires, and developing career paths
    • Designing, developing, and validating employee selection tests and related instruments for application to specific and general examining needs, and conducting studies to determine the predictive effectiveness of existing tests for specific occupations. Using classical test theory and item response theory to develop assessments, including computer adaptive tests
    • Participating in all phases of the research process, including problem definition, planning, execution, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of results. Preparing and presenting briefing materials that communicate technical information to non-technical audiences of all levels; documenting applied research study methods and results in technical reports
