Learn more about
The Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board (Board) is an independent agency of the U.S. federal government responsible for evaluating the technical and scientific validity of activities undertaken by the Department of Energy (DOE) in managing and disposing of spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste. DOE manages and will dispose of its own spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste. Under the terms of the Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982, DOE will also transport spent nuclear fuel from commercial nuclear power plant sites to federal facilities and manage its disposal. The 11 Board members are eminent scientists and engineers appointed by the President. They serve part-time and are supported by a permanent staff based in Arlington, VA.
The Board is seeking to appoint one or more scientists or engineers as (a) member(s) of its Professional Staff to support Board members in their evaluation of DOE activities related to managing and disposing of spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste. Employment by the Board represents an unusually attractive opportunity for a motivated person who has the background and experience needed to evaluate DOE's activities, as well as the organizational and communication skills needed to present the results of such evaluations quickly, succinctly and accurately, both orally and in writing.
