First consideration may be made 14 days after the opening date. Selection will be made at the grade 7 level. This is a career ladder opportunity with promotion potential to grade 12. The selected candidate may be non-competitively promoted to the next higher grade level, up to grade 12, upon the recommendation of the supervisor based on classification requirements, satisfactory performance and qualifications of the employee.
Duties:
1. Participate in many other aspects of the software development lifecycle: requirements generation, design, code, verification and test, and maintenance, as well as overall integration of software modules and other subsystem components, both commercial and custom.
2. Support frequently requires extensive troubleshooting and research into reports, process, interfaces and data structures, both delivered and customized.
3. Contribute to design of software following SAO Computation Facility (CF) and SI Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) software design standards, applicable vendor’s literature, and established CF practices. Assist with software development interpreting specific software project standards and developing software documentation accordingly, ensuring compliance with applicable standards.
4. Verify and test all generated software and maintain code as part of an overall system.
5. Obtain data necessary to define application and system by working closely with technical and administrative staff.
6. Perform other assignments as required.

Candidates must possess knowledge of and experience with enterprise financial systems, SQL, basic accounting principles, Web services, Web-based and database applications development in a multi-user Unix/Linux systems environment; Unix/Linux operating systems and utility software; ability to write concise, readable, user-oriented documentation for software and/or hardware systems, and to write system maintenance documentation; and, ability to work effectively and cooperatively with computer and network users and systems staff.
In addition, candidates must possess a minimum of one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the grade 5 in the normal line of progress for this occupation, which should demonstrate basic knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials and Human Resources suites or other similar enterprise applications; basic knowledge of relational database management systems and database design concepts; basic knowledge of SQL; basic knowledge of one or more of the principle programming languages in use in SAO applications, including Java, JavaScript, Java Server Pages, Perl, PHP, and VisualBasic; knowledge of CSS, HTML and XML; and basic knowledge of system software development lifecycles, including requirements generation, design, code, verification and test, systems integration, maintenance, and support.
Experience as a trainee providing basic help desk support to users of PeopleSoft Financials and Human Resources suites or similar enterprise applications would be qualifying at this level.
Applicants can meet the basic requirement to qualify for this position through possession of education or experience. If qualifying based on education, all academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.
