    The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a civilian appellate defense litigation specialist, providing expert legal counsel, advice and guidance to clients authorized to receive assistance pursuant to Article 70, Uniform Code of Military Justice.

    • Serve as a death-penalty litigation expert. Provides expert legal counsel, advice and guidance in extremely complex and sensitive cases.
    • Represent clients authorized to receive appellate defense counsel assistance pursuant to Article 70, Uniform Code of Military Justice.
    • Carry out extensive research and legal analysis to prepare persuasive written legal briefs or complex appellate criminal justice matters to ensure appellant?s legal rights are avidly safeguarded.
    • Train appellate defense counsel on appellate issues to include brief writing, extraordinary writs and other specialized areas of appellate practices.
    • Possess expert knowledge of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, Military Rules of Evidence, Rules for Court Martials and local rules of practice for the Court of Criminal Appeals, the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, etc.
