The Guardianship Assistance Program (GAP) of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia was first established in August 2008. As part of the Probate Division, the program was created to assist the Court with fulfilling its mandate to ensure the well-being of incapacitated adults, known as “wards” under court supervision.

The Social Worker’s caseload will consist of adults who are considered incapacitated, have been appointed a guardian and are wards of the District of Columbia. The social worker is assigned cases on an ongoing basis for the purpose of investigating the continued need for guardianship and making a recommendation to the court. The Social Worker will spend at least 40% of their time conducting visits in the community. The Social Worker is expected to perform the following tasks:

A Masters of Social Work degree from an accredited program under the Counsel of Social Work Education (CSWE) and possess a valid Licensed Graduate Social Work License (LGSW) or a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Work License (LICSW) from the DC Board of Social Work.
