As a Mechanical Engineer at the GS-0830-13 some of your typical work assignments may include:
- Serves as investigator/project engineer responsible for organizing, planning, directing and evaluating scientific and engineering work necessary to the development of technical solutions to defeat Improvised Threats.
- Responsible for providing subject matter expertise in technical matters regarding the counter improvised-threat applications of mechanical systems, such as autonomous and UAV systems, for the standoff detection and defeat of improvised threats.
- Subject matter expert in mechanical engineering, and related technologies and counter-technologies (such as UAVs and autonomous systems).
- Conceives, plans, and conducts experiments and tests to evaluate the threat and potential technical solutions.
- Plans and leads scientific/technical information exchanges and workshops to develop and explore solutions to urgent warfighting CIT problems and needs.
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.

ACQUISITION POSITION: This is an Acquisition Workforce position in the Engineering career field. The incumbent is required to become certified, Level II in the applicable career field within 24 months, unless a position requirements waiver is approved to extend the 24 months. The incumbent must obtain a minimum of 80 continuous learning points (CLPs) for every 2-year CLP period, with a goal of at least 40 annually.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET SENSITIVE COMPARTMENTED INFORMATION (TS-SCI) clearance.
