The mission of the Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR) Programs team is to maximize the physical, emotional and social development of the Navy family. This position is located in the Information Technology Branch (NDW N946) of the Naval District Washington, Regional Support Service Center, (NDW N94).
Position requires a considerable amount of local travel and contact with personnel at NDW Region and Installations-Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Naval Air Station (NAS) Patuxent River, Naval Support Activity (NAS) Annapolis, NSA Bethesda, NSA South Potomac, NSA Bethesda, and NSA Washington for F F R Programs including Fleet & Family Services (FS) N91, Child and Youth Programs (CYP) N926, Unaccompanied Housing (UH) N93, Family Housing Navy (FHN), Navy Gateway Inns and Suites (NGIS) N92, Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) N92, Visiting Flag Quarters (VFQ), and Galley. This position reports directly to the N94 Regional Support Services Office Manager.
Major Duties
Assists MIS management with plans and designs for acquisition of new or upgraded hardware and software systems; maintains current knowledge of hardware, software and network technology and may recommend modifications as necessary.
Assists with developing and documenting practical, workable solutions and reviewing with users. Programs and/or tests solutions.
Assists with Active Directory maintenance and strategic planning. Assists with WSUS maintenance and administration. Antivirus administration and maintenance. Review logs, apply updates, maintain licensure, ensure all PC’s and servers are updated and protected. Verify all data backup jobs are running successfully, and checks daily/weekly for accuracy.
May conduct periodic reviews to verify physical security controls remain in place. Assists with ensuring that local configurations on systems are DOD compliant with gold disk standards, and information system warning banners. Assist in ensuring that POS systems are operating in compliance with Payment Card Industry Standards (PCI) by conducting periodic reviews of all related hardware and software.
Responsible for inventories of computer equipment and software within internet facilities. Resolves problems ranging from equipment operation to utilization of computer systems and application programs and analyzes problem to determine if there is equipment malfunction, software problems or lack of user understanding regarding the use of equipment or software.
Assists in customer support to over 400 computer users and ensures all users have proper security clearances.
Assists in tracking the maintenance of both hardware and software associated with MIS/POS. Recommends additions to inventory as warranted. Ensures safeguarding of Navy property reporting any shortages or misuse to supervisor as soon as possible.
Performs Systems Data Sheets for review to ascertain if needed change out, upgrade or expansion of internet systems is warranted
Performs other related duties as directed.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Work is primarily sedentary in nature in an environment that is adequately cooled, heated and well lit. Some walking, bending and stooping is required and may be in confined spaces. Incumbent may be required to carry some equipment weighing 45 lbs without assistance, and possibly higher weights with assistance of a hand truck.
Speical Requirement:
Position is a non-critical, sensitive position requiring access to IT II system and/or access to PII. Position required eligibility for a secret clearance. An Access National Agency Check investigation (ANACI) is required via the SF 86 security form. Must prepare and submit an annual personal financial statement.
This position is subject to an irregular tour, which may include weekends and holidays.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as travel is required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology is preferred, but may be substituted by a minimum of 3 years general experience, and a minimum 1 year specific documented experience in the areas noted herein. Knowledge required: basic computer systems and design; knowledge of hardware repair sufficient to detect and trouble shoot damaged or corrupted system components and effect repairs, specific configuration of the POS/MIS sufficient to advise and assist management and staff on functional use; basic training and teaching skills; basic troubleshooting techniques; and full understanding of all Windows Architecture including server and workstation.
A considerable knowledge of Citrix Systems – Independent Client Architecture (ICA), knowledge of database design and maintenance such as Access, SQL, and Progress is necessary for MIS/POS/Business systems, or CYMS. Must be familiar with the basic operation of existing LAN, WAN, VPN, and Firewall Security Systems. Must possess excellent customer service skills. Must possess a good understanding of the role of MWR and the other Quality of Life Programs dependent on the MIS/POS/Business Systems and CYMS. Basic knowledge of NAF accounting, personnel, and procurement, and familiarity with KRONOS Timekeeping Systems, SAP Management Information System, Food and Beverage, Hotel or Recreational POS Systems in highly desirable.
Incumbent will have 6 months from date of hire to satisfactorily complete the appropriate training and obtain certification/recertification for position outlined in DoD 8570. P1-M IA Workforce Improvement Program.
