This position is located in the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE), Division of Computing and Communications Foundations (CCF). The Division of Computing and Communication Foundations (CCF) supports research and education projects that explore the foundations of computing and communication devices and their usage. The Division seeks advances in computing and communication theory, algorithms for computer and computational sciences, and architecture and design of computers and software. CCF-supported projects also investigate revolutionary computing models and technologies based on emerging scientific ideas and integrate research and education activities to prepare future generations of computer science and engineering workers.

As an Integrative Activities Specialist, you will primarily gather information, identify and analyze issues and develop recommendations to resolve substantive problems of effectiveness and efficiency of program operations. Specifically you will:
• Work closely with Division management in the formulation, review, evaluation, and modification of plans and policies related to assigned programs.
• Develop and recommend revisions and clarifications of associated guidelines, procedures, and criteria.
• Participate with Division management in the planning and development of objectives and a calendar of thematic initiatives.
• Convene and chair meetings to discuss various issues and problems involving the administration management of cross-cutting thematic activities.
• Monitor the implementation of such activities across the Division and where appropriate, across the Directorate or the agency.
• Collect pertinent statistical data and narrative information from a variety of sources within and outside NSF. Applies, adapts or creates complex analytical techniques to discern patterns and trends in the data and information and to arrive at reasoned conclusions.
• Initiate, design, and execute management studies to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of cross-cutting programs and activities.
• Deliver finished written reports and oral presentations on the results of, and the analytical techniques used, in accomplishing the program administration work.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships to exchange information and coordinate activities with all levels of management and staff within the Foundation, with the scientific community, professional organizations and institutions, and other governmental agencies on a variety of program issues such as project collaborations, joint funding and joint planning.
• Provide leadership and expertise in organizing and planning workshops, conferences and seminars, administrative functions in support of assigned projects. Projects may involve administrative program reviews, crosscutting administrative activities, and organizational studies related to Clusters, reorganizations, resources utilization, etc., to determine appropriateness or make recommendations impacting on the efficiency of operations. The incumbent applies analytical techniques and information management skills to capture, assemble and disseminate data about assigned projects. In the performance of work assignments, the incumbent conducts analyses, prepares evaluations, coordinates activities, and provides advice to management.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent.
