This position serves as first line supervisor of a crew of helitack personnel/firefighters located on a Forest unit and is responsible to function as an assistant to the supervisor of a Helitack program providing leadership and technical knowledge to employees on a daily basis.

Serves as an Incident Commander (IC), managing resources that vary from single resource to multiple resource task forces or strike teams. May serve as helicopter rappel spotter, responsible for the safe and efficient deployment of rappellers and cargo on incident and training missions from a variety of aircraft.
Coordinates and prioritizes attack sequence in multiple fire situations based on fire needs and principles of efficient aircraft use. Provides pilots, crews, and dispatchers with detailed instructions on incident objectives, situations and tactics.
Serves as Helicopter Manager, preparing helicopter for mission response, briefs personnel, performs aerial recons, relays critical incident information, makes tactical decisions, deploys personnel, coordinates with other incident resources and aviation assets.
Provides technical expertise for helicopter projects including aerial ignition, spraying, seeding. Determines violations of safety regulations or contractual clauses. Incumbent is responsible for the day to day operation and supervision of the module.
Performs the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised. Serves as alternate to primary COR. Enforces helicopter contract provisions, proposes contract language changes to the Helitack Manager, issues work orders and notices of non-compliance to the Contractor.
Responsible for helicopter safety and compliance. Ensures subordinates are trained and qualified. Ensures all flight-following policies and procedures are adhered to. Serves as instructor for Forest and Regional courses or workshops that instruct helitack, Forest, and other cooperating agency personnel in helicopter operations, wildland fire, and related resource management. Provides input to Helitack Manager in current and out-year planning of the helitack budget.

Occasional travel - Occasional overnight travel may be required for fire suppression or fire related assignments.
