    Summary

    The Pathways Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school and while getting paid for the work performed. Students who successfully complete the program may be eligible for conversion to a competitive service position in the civil service.

    Responsibilities

    In this student trainee position, you will be supporting the work of Border Patrol agents and other Mission Support personnel to gain the skills to successfully become a Border Patrol agent. You will also become a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) profession. As a student trainee, typical work assignments include providing support for:

    • Enforcing immigration, and drug enforcement laws and regulations;
    • Conducting inspections of individuals and conveyances at checkpoints;
    • Determining the admissibility of individuals for entry into the United States; and
    • Preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband.
    Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, United States Border Patrol:
    • El Paso Sector HQ, El Paso, TX
    • Tucson Sector HQ, Tucson, AZ
    This position starts at a salary of $26,587 (GS-3, Step 1) to $38,798 (GS-4, Step 10). The salary reflects a full time work schedule in pay status throughout the year.
