The VA Interim Staffing Program (ISP) is currently seeking temporary, intermittent Primary Care Physicians for Locum Tenens assignments. ISP physicians are temporarily assigned to serve VA healthcare facilities whose clinical demands exceed current staff capacities, that have unexpected or temporary absences of facility providers, or to fill vacancies where the hiring of permanent providers has been difficult. You will work in a coordinated team setting with other professionals.

Primary Care Physicians manage the full spectrum of primary care responsibilities, including admission, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment (including consultation on patients referred for internal medicine complaints, diseases, and injuries). Clinical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Ordering appropriate lab work and diagnostic tests
    • Requesting consultations to specialty services
    • Providing appropriate follow-up care
    • Triaging of patients with non-medicine complaints, diseases, and injuries to appropriate disciplines for diagnosis and treatment
    Tele-Primary Care
    • You will complete foundational training required for effective delivery of telemedicine. The ISP may offer opportunities to deploy as a tele-primary care provider.
Assignments typically last 90 days, and can lead to permanent placement if the ISP Physician is interested in permanent employment. Physicians are expected to work a minimum of (2) 90 days assignments per year. The VHA's Interim Staffing Program/Locum Tenens branch provides the perfect opportunity for physicians to expand their professional horizons and explore new options.

Computer skills are essential, as VA Medical Centers are fully-computerized for note documentation, entering orders and requesting consults.

First referral will be made August 3, 2018; additional referrals will be made as requested by management.

Work schedule: Intermittent. Providers will work a full-time schedule while on assignment.
    Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
Designated Drug-Testing Position: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
