Incumbent provides specialty support for construction of new facilities, renovation projects, modernization projects, demolition, lease projects and major utility replacement systems. The incumbent conducts occasional and final safety inspections documenting discrepancies, code violations, improper materials or techniques in the application of materials, and sub-standard or poor-quality workmanship. Serves as the primary representative for the regional review of construction safety and occupational health programs. Assists project offices in assigned region in the review of plans and programs to achieve and maintain compliance with agency regulations and standards, executive orders, and statutes as they affect the safety and occupational health of Federal employees and VA contractors at worksites. Evaluates the safety and occupational health programs and activities of project and regional office and provides evaluation reports with recommendations for changes and/or modifications.
The incumbent provides technical assistance, advice and consultation in the development, interpretation, and application of safety and occupational health standards and regulations as they apply to construction of Federal facilities and the Federal workplace and employees. Work with Project Managers and Senior Resident Engineers in establishing individual project programs and operations; reviews qualifications of contractors; plans and formulates program objectives and goals; and provides training and orientation to employees through periodic meetings, conferences and seminars. Plans and coordinates the investigation of Federal employee complaints involving safety and occupational health catastrophes, fatalities, and serious accidents or incidents involving Federal employees and/or CFM contractors.
Work schedule: Required to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
