    The Associate Director, HSR&D, IQuEST, Physician is accountable to provide leadership in two major areas: First, the incumbent must develop his/her own independent, high quality, nationally funded research program in health services research, preferably within our mission and goals. Second, the incumbent must provide administrative and research leadership that promotes the careers of young investigators and fosters the career promotion and satisfaction of mid and senior level researchers.

    The incumbent will oversee ongoing professional development of current faculty and staff, as well as identify new investigators and key technical staff with specialized skills and competencies needed by Center investigators in support of our mission. She/he will also be directly involved in the long-term strategic planning for the Center, including executive management and planning with the Center's Advisory Board, Executive Committee and local, regional and national entities directly involved in the Center's structure, function, fiscal management, and operations. Finally, the incumbent will be expected to be a strong partner for the Center Director in guiding the leadership team and shepherding the Center's mission.

    Responsibility for the administrative and technical supervision and management of the administration and operations functions within the Health Services Research and Development, Center for Innovation in Quality, Effectiveness and Safety, HSR&D, IQuEST, including supervision of staff comprised of one Admin Officer and six Program Chiefs. Exercise supervisory authorities and responsibilities involving work assignments and reviews, as well as the administrative and personnel management functions in the absence of the Director, HSR&D, IQuEST. Establishes guidelines and performance standards for staff, which are clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system. Resolve informal complaints and grievances. Provides advice and counsel to Leadership Team related to work and administrative matters. Effects disciplinary measures, such as warnings and proposed reprimands, recommending other action in more serious cases. Has a working knowledge and understanding of the techniques of supervision and employee relations, including various methods of training and orienting a variety of people at all levels of skill and education. Responsible for planning and carrying out assignments, recognizing and resolving conflicts, coordinating and delegating work of subordinates, coordinating with staff and management personnel, and conducting all phases of the program.
