The duties described below are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments
will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity.
As an Electrical Engineer you will perform electrical engineering design and is knowledgeable in the
construction, operation and maintenance of the aforementioned systems and equipment. Meet with officials of various GSFC divisions to discuss electrical features of proposed construction. Furnish technical assistance and advice with respect to proposed installation of research equipment and investigates and evaluates feasibility and compatibility with existing or proposed building electrical systems and equipment.
You will consult with contract Architect Engineers on the design of electrical features for various types of
maintenance and construction projects on which he/she is assigned as Principal Electrical Engineer by
reviewing design analysis, calculations, and drawings as to their technical competency and to ensure that
they incorporate requirements of using personnel. During construction of these same projects, reviews and
recommends approval or disapproval of shop drawing submittals for electrical equipment, checking for capacity and space requirements, and for all other compliances with electrical provisions of contract plans and specifications.
You will resolve problems involved in the scheduling, design, construction, testing, and acceptance of the
electrical engineering components of the facility may require special adaption to a research laboratory. This
equipment consists of valves, heat exchangers, temperature controls, vacuum producers, pumps, filters, etc.
Review design criteria, preliminary and final plans and specifications for electrical equipment. Coordinates
them with other personnel in the organization to determine adequacy, compatibility with other components,
adherence to sound engineering practices, methods, energy conservation, economy, and necessity.
You will review suggested changes to design or construction and recommends approval or disapproval. Expedite phases or items of work necessary to keep them in proper relation to the whole. Represent the organization for bid evaluating, procurement, construction, and installation of equipment at minimum cost and of good quality. Review detailed design, procurement and construction schedules and the maintenance
of status record and electrical components of the facility.
