This is a temporary Pathways Internship Program appointment not-to-exceed one year. The anticipated hours are 20 hours per week during school & possible 40 hours per week during school breaks.
The incumbent of this position serves as an Intern under the Pathways Program. This program is designed to provide students enrolled at educational institutions at all levels (high school to graduate level) with paid opportunities to work in agencies and explore the benefits and conditions of Federal employment. You must be enrolled in a qualifying academic program through the Summer 2019 semester in order to be considered for this position.
The agency may non competitively convert a Pathways Intern to a term or permanent appointment in the competitive service, as long as the Intern meets the following: 1. U.S. Citizenship; 2. Successful Completion of academic course of study, degree, diploma or certificate related to the position; 3. Completion of a minimum of 640 hours of work experience under the Internship Program; 4. Meet the OPM Qualification requirements for the position the intern may be converted to; and 5. Maintain acceptable performance.
Government information work involves implementing policies and procedures to manage Government information and providing information-related assistance and services to the general public. The work requires interpreting and applying laws, regulations, policies, and guidance to provide access to Federal agency records and information, while ensuring protected information is appropriately disclosed. Government Information Specialists make determinations about disclosures, issuance of denials, redactions, access to Federal agency records and use and dissemination of personally identifiable information. Many Government information specialists focus on Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Privacy Act, or a combination of both.

This position is located in the Office of the Assistant Inspector General for Legal, Legislative, and External Affairs (AIG/LLEA), Office of Inspector General (OIG), Washington, DC. You will be responsible for the following duties:
Current students enrolled or accepted for enrollment seeking a degree from a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis. Students must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
To be eligible for an appointment to a position in the DOT Intern Program, an individual must meet the definition of a "student" as set forth in 5 CFR part 362.202:
Student means an individual accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled), including awardees of the Harry S. Truman Foundation Scholarship Program under Public Law 93-842. Students need not be in actual physical attendance, so long as all other requirements are met. An individual who needs to complete less than the equivalent of half an academic/vocational or technical course-load immediately prior to graduating is still considered a student for purposes of this Program.
