    Responsibilities

    The incumbent serves as a Communications Specialist in the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Integration Office, Executive Office, AUS-10. This person will apply their experience and advanced knowledge to being a contributor or team member for the development of communication materials for a wide range of audiences, including executives, working level employees, and large-scale audiences of over 1,000 people. Types of materials include, but are not limited to: internal and external letters, newsletters, web-based content, informational memorandums, white papers, presentations, Congressional Questions for the Record, operating procedures and processes, and public inquiries.

    This person will assist with developing and executing organizational strategic plans, annual reports, and other publications for new programs, transformation efforts, and other organizational initiatives. Collaborates with all levels of management and program sponsors/owners to solicit and provide input, solicit approval for plans, measure and report progress, facilitate involvement, and provide coaching on communication issues. It is expected that they will regularly evaluate the environment to determine what organization members and external stakeholders want to know, need to know, and how they prefer to receive information.

    This person will be able to resolve most problems and work issues without immediate assistance from a manager or more experienced professional. They will also be able to independently plan their time and prioritize work assignments, with minimal input from management.

    Responsibilities include: developing strategies that include the best medium and content for addressing important issues to key audiences, including countering resistance and building buy­ in; developing and managing a schedule of tactical communications activities built around existing office milestones and events; and adjusting a communications strategy based on what messages were successful, were most effective, and whether they spurred the desired actions. This person will also be responsible for providing coaching, feedback and/or training to junior staff to develop communication skills, including presentation development and delivery.
