ARS Postdoctoral Research Associates are hired to supplement a lead scientist's research on agricultural problems of high national priority affecting American agriculture.

THIS IS AN APPOINTMENT NOT TO EXCEED 2 YEARS, WITH POSSIBLE EXTENSION UP TO 4 YEARS TOTAL.
The primary responsibility of the incumbent is the isolation, identification and development of natural products for potential pest management use. The primary benefit of such research is the discovery of bioactive products from natural sources, primarily microbial, with a high likelihood of possessing undiscovered modes of action and which are perceived as being environmentally friendly. New modes of action are needed to furnish the pesticide industry with new parent compounds for pesticides, to provide pest management programs a wide variety of biochemical routes to attack a given pest, and to provide effective compounds against pests that have developed resistance against existing pesticides.
Occasional travel - To and from conferences.
