Physical Requirement: The incumbent works on benches and/or at work-sites. Work may be located on ladders, scaffolds, etc., requiring overhead work in stretched, cramped or awkward positions. The incumbent will operate a variety of hand and power tools and equipment and is often required to lift and carry moderately heavy or awkwardly shaped items, such as lumber, tool boxes and heavy machinery normally not in excess of 50 pounds. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity. The work requires some physical exertion, also including long periods of standing, walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities.
Working Conditions: Incumbent is subject to being called in for emergency situations at any time. Work is completed alone or as a member of a crew in a shop situation or at a work site, in all types of weather. Outside is exposed to both heat and cold; on rooftops, scaffolding and high ladders, and is subject to falls. Indoors is exposed to noise from power tools, dirt, and dust, including sawdust and flying chips of wood or other building material. The incumbent is subject to cuts, splinters, etc., and other injuries associated with the use of hand and power tools. The incumbent may be required to work with or around potentially hazardous carcinogenic substances, such as asbestos and is often required to use personal protective equipment such as hard hats, masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields. The Incumbent must be able to complete operators training for equipment assigned to the section. The operation may involve moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines. Safety requirements must be met at all times.
