    The incumbent serves as a Health Benefits Advisor in the Eligibility and Patient Registration Unit of the Health Administration Service office. Incumbent is primarily responsible for the intake and administrative processes for veterans and beneficiaries applying for medical services to our Health Care System or any of its Community Based Outpatient (CBOCs).

    Attention to detail is mandatory for the duties involved in this position. Some of the duties include but not limited to:
    Incumbent determines eligibility and legal entitlement of applicants for health care, including assignment into the appropriate enrollment priority group. Administers income assessments (means tests), advises and counsels veterans, their beneficiaries or representatives of financial obligations and co-pay requirements. Incumbent is responsible for gathering, entering and updating demographic, employment, insurance, and income information. The incumbent deals with a variety of benefits and/or obligations (i.e. medical benefits, copay requirements, medication benefits, dental benefits, special transportation and travel benefits, and special registries such as Agent Orange etc). Employee will independently manage the Medical Center's Beneficiary Travel Program requests. The Beneficiary Travel program provides transportation at Government expense to beneficiaries and their attendants traveling to and from VA facilities and other places for the purpose of examination, treatment or care. Contacts approving official to authorize obligations and requests for additions, deductions, and/or movement of funds. Arranges all modes of transportation via air ambulance, commercial air, taxi, ambulance, bus and/or independent transports. Reconciles vouchers against authorizations for accuracy prior to preparing certifications Incumbent is responsible for the processing of patient funds requests for varying types of accounts and payments. Responsible for admitting patients into VA facility, i.e. hospital, domiciliary, CLC, transitional residence, when notified by ward clerk.
