    Incumbent serves as a fully trained specialist in rescue and firefighting techniques used to protect lives and property. Evacuates or rescues occupants, administers first aid and artificial respiration. Operates emergency care equipment. Responds to alarms and fights fires involving structures, equipment, facilities, fuel, hazardous materials, and wild land fires. Uses chemicals, axes, bars, hooks, saws, breathing apparatus, and other firefighting equipment to extinguish fires and protect life and property. Performs fire protection inspection of patient care, shop and storage areas. Makes visual checks and mechanical tests of fire alarm and fire protection systems to ensure proper performance. Prepares reports of unsafe conditions and conducts follow-up inspections to assure satisfactory corrections. Operates fire alarm equipment and other fire reporting and suppression systems. Conducts training of Medical Center personnel in fire prevention and protection procedures using lectures, drills and demonstrations. Participates in scheduled training including educational and personal physical fitness training to maintain job proficiency. Performs routine fire station duties and other related duties as assigned. Periodically drives and/or operates emergency vehicles. Serves a scheduled desk watch. Incumbent must have and maintain a current state driver's license.
