The Engineering Technician will be assigned to Facility Management Service (FMS) Washington DC VA Medical Center, Washington, DC. Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-10. At the GS-09 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-10. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.
Prepares plans, specifications, and estimates for complex projects, which include multidisciplinary architectural, fire and safety, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, telecommunication, analog and digital electronics, and hazardous material abatement design.
Prepares project documents for inclusion in the multi-year facility plan and for submission to the
Network, VHACO, and VACO, requesting authorization and funding.
Serves as the technical expert on highly technical equipment, networked systems, and computer
software programs which include, but are not limited to: complex analog and digital building
information systems (BIM, Revit), computer aided design and drafting (CADD) electronic
documentation, work order management systems (e.g. AEMS/MERS, Maximo), and tracking
tools for environment of care (EOC) deficiencies.
Records drawings and space survey of the medical center are maintained to assure an accurate and up-to-date document of using service assignment, room numbers, size, layout, and function.
Administers contracts for compliance, evaluates submissions, and processes payment applications and invoices within required time frames.
Prepares reports required for Medical Center, Network, VHACO, and VACO tracking of progress and funding allocation.
Administers A/E contracts to insure A/E conformance to project scope and design criteria, while also insuring accuracy, completeness, and quality of the design work.
Protects the interest of the government by mitigating design and construction errors, omissions,
oversight, and fraud, as well as fire and safety issues.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 7:30am-3:30pm
