    Responsibilities


    The mission of the Office of Energy Projects is to foster economic and environmental benefits for the nation in support of the Commission’s review and oversight of hydroelectric and natural gas pipeline energy projects in its jurisdiction.  OEP has the engineering and environmental expertise to focus on evaluating project siting and construction; balancing environmental and other concerns; ensuring compliance; and safeguarding the public. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is seeking a highly motivated and qualified candidate for an exciting full-time permanent position within the Division of Dam Safety and Inspections of the Office of Energy Projects.  The position is located in the Washington, DC Office.
    The incumbent will work as an expert technical authority, team leader and team member on a wide range of complex dam safety engineering work of exceptional difficulty.  The incumbent will be responsible for the inspection, engineering evaluation and analysis of non-federal hydroelectric projects including dams to insure the safety of the projects and compliance with the terms of the license, the provisions of the Federal Power Act, FERC regulations and current engineering dam safety criteria and guidelines. Assignments may require substantial travel and can involve hiking in mountainous terrain, climbing steeply inclined faces of dams, ladders, spillway structures and descending into dam galleries, penstocks, and tunnels. The ability to communicate effectively with others is also important.

    Major Duties of the position:

    -  Technical expert in inspection, engineering evaluation and analyses of hydroelectric projects including dams to ensure the safety of the projects.

    -   Inspection, engineering evaluation and analyses of hydroelectric projects to ensure compliance with the terms of the license, the provisions of the Federal Power Act, and the Commission’s regulations.

    -  Prepares engineering reports to establish and document the dam safety, public safety, and environmental and license compliance of the hydroelectric project.
