As an Electrical Engineer, the incumbent will conduct engineering analyses based on technical aspects of the products through product safety assessments; develop written engineering reports of products within a specified time period. They will participate on interdisciplinary project teams and as a member of the Electrical Program Area Team to assist in addressing complex electrical safety issues. The incumbent writes reports to support development of mandatory and voluntary standards; participates on voluntary standards development committees. They will perform support tasks including, internet, database, and scientific literature searches as requested to locate and extract scientific information for inclusion in reports. This position requires administrative tasks in support of the Directorate, which may include but not limited to, processing purchase requests and managing contracts and Directorate credit card information.
Delegated Examining: UNITED STATES CITIZENS MAY APPLY (no prior federal experience is required).

Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
GS-09: 1) Experience performing or directing routine electrical tests and evaluations and developing reports based on findings; 2) designing and implementing electrical engineering studies; and 3) applying knowledge of principles, theories, and research in the area of electrical engineering in the assessment of electrical or electronic components, equipment or systems.
GS-11: 1) Experience in performing the full range of engineering duties associated with the safety aspects of electrical appliances and equipment; 2) wiring system components, lighting products, shock protection, battery-operated and electrically-powered appliances and other products; and 3) applying standard procedures to identify, reduce or eliminate electrical hazards from consumer products.
