The individual selected for this position will:
- Operate a forklift truck, with a capacity of up to 10,000 pounds, to load and unload, stack/unstack, re-warehouse and move boxes, crates, packages, pallets or loose items to assigned places.
- Load and unload heavy boxes, bulky supplies and heavy construction building materials and supplies to and from trucks; moves heavy boxes and cartons by hand, hand truck or dolly; opens crates and boxes using crowbars and cuts bands using shears; and stacks boxes and cartons where directed.
- Regulate movement and is careful to avoid overloading or improper stacking or movement of supplies and materials.
- Keep loading dock clean at all times and inspects all the powered equipment daily as required.
- Provide set-up and support for special events. Sets up dining areas or Committee rooms in various configurations for many types of events.
- Sets up equipment and furniture according to work orders or instructions and rearranges existing furniture as requested. Picks-up/delivers pitchers and glasses as needed.
- Contact the point of contact (POC) for all shipments that arrive at the CVC loading dock and ensures that shipments are delivered to and received by, the POC.
- Assist the shop offices’ trades personnel by performing duties such as holding materials, transporting toolsm cleaning and work areas.
- Collect trash and debris, including horticultural debris, from the Capitol Building and surrounding grounds. Empties trash, garbage and other debris from receptacles. Keeps up with the entire recycling process.
- Clean both the interior and exterior of the Capitol Building and the CVC, including floors, walls, porcelains, commodes and windows using power equipment and normal household-type cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, buffers, sprayers, shampooers, mops, sponges and brooms. Using abrasive stone, cleans and smooths marble surfaces. Polishes brass articles.
- Exercise all safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner and to initiate or take corrective action on unsafe conditions.
